Today in History: Barbara Jordan Born

Today in History–February 21–the Library of Congress features legislator Barbara Jordan, who was born in Houston, Texas, on this day in 1936. In 1966 Jordan became the first African American state senator since 1883 and the first Black woman to serve. In 1972 she became a U.S. congresswoman.
