Today in History: County & State Fairs

Today in History–August 22–the Library of Congress features county and state fairs, many of which are held in late summer and early fall. The earliest fairs, such as the great Aztec fair that Spanish conquistadors found on the present-day site of Mexico City, provided opportunities for people to demonstrate their skills and crafts, exchange ideas, and barter for goods.
