TPS Spotlight: Library of Congress Self-Paced Professional Development

The first two modules in a series of learning and practicing strategies for teaching with primary sources recently launched on the Library’s Teachers site.

  • Analyzing Primary Sources: In this introductory module covering the the foundations of primary source analysis, users experience and practice strategies for analyzing a historical photograph and explore teacher resources from the Library of Congress.
  • Multiple Sources for Multiple Perspectives: In this module, users analyze a primary source about a well-documented event in U.S. history and work with additional sources to deepen understanding of multiple perspectives related to the event.

Each module is self-contained, plays from a web browser, and can be completed in one hour or less. Educators who compete a module in one session—the system does not save progress—will receive a certificate for one hour of professional development.

Stay tuned as additional self-paced modules are currently being developed. If you have any questions or comments, please contact: teachinglcsummer@loc.gov.
