TPS Spotlight: Mars Hill University

TPS-Mars Hill PD

The oldest program in the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) Consortium, Mars Hill University provides free, high quality professional development to help teachers and other educational specialists in public, private and charter schools throughout Western North Carolina enrich instruction by using the Library’s vast collection of digitized primary sources. TPS Mars Hill also works closely with the university education department to introduce pre-service teachers to the Library’s materials a number of times during their undergraduate course work.

TPS-Mars Hill offers in-person, hybrid, and online workshops featuring interactive strategies that fit into classroom practice across the curriculum and grade levels. Workshops are customizable but special topics of interest for the program include Appalachian Studies, Makerspace and Primary Sources, Performance through Primary Sources, and the Long Arc of the Civil Rights movement. Contact Bridget Morton to schedule a workshop.

Lesson plans co-created with TPS-Mars Hill are also available on their website.
